Each morning, the editors plan coverage for STLtoday and the next day's Post-Dispatch. Here's what was on our minds.
Rick Perry: Texas Gov. Rick Perry abandons his GOP presidential bid today and supports Newt Gingrich. "I believe that Newt is a conservative visionary who can transform our country," Perry says. Gingrich's ex-wife, Marianne, also is talking about Newt today, but her words aren't so kind. In an exclusive interview with ABC due to air tonight, she says Gingrich wanted an open marriage and permission to continue his affair with the woman he later married.
Smoking: Missouri fails again on every smoking-related health issue, according to a yearly report from the American Lung Association. The state receives an "F" grade in every category. Some of our story commentators, however, suggest that the "F" stands for freedom.
Tenure: It seems as if teachers are under attack at every turn. We had reports today about a strict evaluation process tied to student performance. In Friday's Post-Dispatch, we look at a Missouri movement that would abolish tenure for all new teachers.
Restaurants: In Friday's edition of Go, Joe Bonwich reviews EdgeWild, samples Tuscan steak and Thai tacos and addresses the question: can you re-create the California winery experience in a West County strip mall?
Blues: Tonight the Blues play Edmonton with a chance to move to the top of the NHL standings. That's right, the Blues could own the best record in the entire league. (As one of my kids said to me last week, "Dad, when did the Blues get so good?")
