With Christmas just around the corner, some bosses are handing out gifts to employees.

And some of those gifts, if you can judge by the tales shared via a CBS News Moneywatch report, are most unwelcome.

A former employee at an amusement park reports having to work Christmas Day, so her boss gave all the workers a voucher to go to a concession stand and get a free banana, OR a soda. She chose the banana, but had to pay the sales tax herself.

Another person reported that the boss gave all the workers an envelope with $100 cash. A nice bonus, right? That's what the workers thought, spending it on dinners, gifts or other little luxuries. Then they got their paychecks and saw the $100 had been deducted from that. Ho-ho-ho.

The worst of the examples in the Moneywatch report, by far, was the women who reported receiving boxes of sanitary napkins from the boss.

We all realize in these days of high unemployment and tough economic times, having a job is a good thing. But if a boss is going to bother with a gift, should he or she put a little thought into it? What's the worst, or best, gift you've gotten from the boss? Cash, gift cards, a bottle of booze?

And if you did get a wildly inappropriate or tacky gift, how did you respond?
