So the NFL has breathlessly announced that Madonna will perform at this year's halftime show in Indianapolis.
Count me among the many millions who usually watch the Super Bowl even if I'm not terribly invested in either team. It's an excuse to get together with friends, eat too much, drink a few beers and watch some fairly entertaining commercials.
I rarely pay much attention to the halftime show. The exception was in 1996 when Diana Ross performed, arriving via helicopter as part of her show. And I only paid attention then because it was in Arizona, where I was the news editor for The Associated Press and was working that night.
Generally, I think the sound isn't that good and the fans they put up close to the stage to scream and look thrilled just annoy me.
But maybe I'm in the minority. Do you look forward to the halftime show? Is it a chance to see a big-name performer, or a chance to restock your chips and dip?
