BELLEVILLE • A St. Louis man was sentenced on Monday to 40 years in prison for killing a Maplewood man during a carjacking in Sauget in March of 2010.

According to a release from the office of the St. Clair County State's Attorney, 21-year-old Lason "Dough Boy" Elliot shot 22-year-old Martin Lampe twice in the side while Lampe was sitting in a car in a convenience store parking lot. The 2002 Chevy Impala Lampe had been driving was found the next day.

Elliot was found guilty of first-degree murder in the case on April 27.

According to Illinois law, Elliot will serve the entire 40-year sentence without the possibility of parole, the release stated.

A scholarship was set up in Lampe's name last year using leftover proceeds from a fundraiser at Michael's Bar & Grill, where he worked as a busboy and kitchen assistant, to cover funeral expenses. The money was to go to students who, like Lampe, lost a parent at an early age.
