BRIDGETON -- Police say a 2-year-old girl who was taken from her mother at a women's shelter early Friday is safe and back with her mother.
At about 8 a.m. Friday, the toddler was taken in the 3100 block of Bridgeland Drive in Bridgeton by her father -- against the mother's will, police say. Police say the mother has legal sole custody of the child.
Police reached the father on his cell phone and he agreed to return the child. Police picked up the girl and the man in Florissant.
Police referred to the case as a parental abduction. The girl was apparently unharmed, but authorities decided to take her to a hospital to be checked out as a precaution.
