PONTOON BEACH -- An Edwardsville man was struck by a car and killed Thursday night on Horseshoe Lake Road, authorities say.

Terell A. Grant, 21, was struck before 9:30 p.m. Thursday and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Madison County coroner's office.

Investigators say toxicology tests will determine if alcohol or drugs played a role in Grant's death.

Earlier, Grant had been in a car that was found parked in the 4200 block of Horseshoe Lake Road.

Grant was running along the road when he jumped into the traffic lane and into the path of a westbound Cadillac. The car was driven by a Granite City man.

It was raining at the time, and the road was slick, police say. The section of the road was unlit.
