A Berkeley woman looking for her keys with a lighter started a fire that destroyed her home.

The Berkeley Fire Department was called to the residence in the 8400 block of Alder Street about 6:45 p.m. on Friday.

Department officials said a woman used a lighter for light as she searched for her keys underneath her bed and lit her mattress on fire. The fire spread to the bed and the rest of the house.

Officials said half the home was destroyed by fire. No one was injured in the blaze. At least four or five people were inside the home at the time the fire started.
