ST. CLAIR COUNTY • A St. Clair County judge Wednesday night declared a mistrial in a double murder trial of a former Alorton mayor's son.

The jury was unable to reach a verdict in the trial of Randy McCallum Jr., 23, who was charged with murder in the Sept. 18, 2009, fatal shootings of Kevin McVay Jr., 21, and Charles Black, 20, both of East St. Louis.

The trial began Monday morning and was given to the jury about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, said St. Clair County Chief Judge John Baricevic. Jurors deliberated for about nine hours before saying they were unable to reach a verdict.

McVay and Black were shot several times "execution-style" outside a house in the 1100 block of 48th Street in Washington Park, police have said.

Court documents say Randy McCallum Jr. was on electronic monitoring at the time after being convicted as a juvenile for fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.

Baricevic said the case will be retried. He said the next hearing in the case will be in October.
