FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS • A waitress who brought the wrong food order was punched and pushed by four women customers at a Red Lobster, police say.
The attack happened more than a month ago, on Dec. 30 — but police in Fairview Heights this week decided to release a video of the incident in hopes of getting the public's help identifying the attackers.
Fairview Heights Police Detective Tim Mueller said the waitress, 25, suffered some cuts on her nose and forehead and a swollen eye. She missed a few days of work.
After the attack, the women apparently paid cash for their bill and left. They were escorted out by a manager, who didn't think to copy down the women's license plate or get any identifying information.
Mueller said the restaurant was busy and another server had taken the women's order. When the waitress brought them the wrong order, the women became belligerent, Mueller said. One of the women threw a drink in the waitress' face.
"After that, all four of them attacked her," Mueller said. "They punched and pushed her. She got pushed into an adjacent table, and they were all on top of her. Other wait staff and some patrons got in and separated everyone."
Two of the women are about 20 years old; the other two are about 40.
Mueller said police are hoping releasing the video will generate some tips. Anyone with information should call Fairview Heights Police Department at 618-489-2100 and ask for Mueller.
Mueller said the women could be charged with battery and mob action. Mob action comes into play anytime two or more people conspire to commit a battery, Mueller said.
