DUPO • A man has been charged with supplying the heroin that caused another man's death in Columbia, Ill., in July.
Jacob D. Nelson, 31, was arrested Wednesday on charges of distributing heroin to Jeremy Moskodauz on July 8, 2011. Moskodauz, 36, died later that night of a drug overdose.
Nelson was also charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a user of controlled substances and one count of maintaining drug-involved premises at his home in the 100 block of North Third Street in Dupo between July 2010 and July 2011.
"We have been working this case since July of last year, and we are very glad to see that the indictment came down yesterday," Columbia Police Chief Joseph Edwards said today.
The arrest was part of an ongoing investigation by the Drug Enforcement Agency into drug distribution in the area, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois said.
Nelson was in custody Thursday. A bail hearing is scheduled for Friday afternoon at the federal courthouse in East St. Louis.
