MADISON COUNTY • Just one day after Illinois State Police seized 61 pounds of marijuana and more than $7,000 in cash, a pair of traffic stops led police to nearly five times that amount of cannabis and more than six times the cash.
About 3:40 p.m. on Feb. 6, an Illinois State Trooper stopped a gold Volkswagen Jetta for failure to signal and improper lane change on Interstate 70 near Collinsville, authorities said. Upon further investigation, the trooper found $51,131 in cash and about a half-pound of marijuana in the car, police said.
Minutes later, another trooper stopped a white Chevrolet Malibu for improper lane usage on I-70 near Highland. After pulling over the vehicle, the trooper found three black duffel bags filled with 153 pounds of cannabis, police said.
Daniel S. Loughridge, 50, of Selma, Ore., was arrested on charges of delivery of cannabis, police said. The investigation into this incident is ongoing, police said.
It was unclear which car Loughridge was in and the Illinois State Police did not immediately return calls seeking clarification.
