ST. LOUIS > Third man is charged in killing • Coran Nettles, 32, is the third man accused in the killing of Andre Hathaway, 30, whose body was found June 8 floating in Moline Creek, in the 9100 block of Riverview Boulevard. Nettles, of the 1900 block of Lakemont Lane in St. Louis County, has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. Previously charged were Kendall White, 28, of the 1000 block of Melvin Avenue in St. Louis, and Bryan A. Shelton, 29, of the 5600 block of Hiller Place in Jennings. Court documents allege they discussed robbing Hathaway at Shelton's home on June 7. Police later found blood on a coffee table there and in the bed of Hathaway's abandoned truck. Bail for each defendant was set at $500,000 cash.

DUPO > Charge is filed in heroin death • Jacob D. Nelson, 31, was arrested Wednesday on a federal charge of distributing heroin that caused a death. Officials said Jeremy Moskodauz, 36, used the heroin in Columbia, Ill., on July 8 and died of an overdose that night. Nelson also was charged with possession of a firearm by a user of controlled substances and maintaining drug-involved premises in 2010-11 at his home in the 100 block of North Third Street in Dupo. Columbia Police Chief Joseph Edwards said the charge was the culmination of a year's work.

EDWARDSVILLE > Phone threat is alleged • Madison County prosecutors have charged James L. Rogers, 62, with a felony count of telephone harassment for allegedly leaving a message Jan. 26 threatening to shoot and kill someone named William O'Reilly and his family. Citing privacy concerns, officials would not say if the target was Fox News Channel personality Bill O'Reilly. Rogers, of the Troy, Ill., area, was held in lieu of $150,000 bail. Fox did not respond to an email inquiry. Sheriff's Capt. Mike Dixon said Rogers was arrested without incident Jan. 31. A court document indicates that sheriff's deputes were also investigating Rogers regarding a threatening call to the office of U.S. Rep. John Shimkus, R-Collinsville. Rogers' lawyer has asked for a reduced bail, asserting that his client has no felony convictions and poses no threat. Circuit Judge Richard Tognarelli ordered an evaluation of Rogers' fitness for trial.

COLLINSVILLE > Troopers report two pot seizures • Illinois State Police said Thursday that two separate traffic stops Feb. 5 along Interstate 70 resulted in the seizure of about 62 pounds of marijuana and $7,800 in cash. The first was from a motor home near Collinsville, which yielded five trash bags filled with 61 pounds of medical-grade marijuana, valued at $244,000. John William Milliorn, 48, of El Paso, Texas, was charged with drug trafficking. Later that day, police said, Rafael Reyes, 29, of Elgin, Texas, was caught near Fairmont City with 530 grams of marijuana and $7,800 cash. He was charged with delivery of cannabis.

MADISON COUNTY > Bank teller is charged • Bank teller Lori A. Surgant has been charged with stealing more than $7,000 from her employer, the First National Bank of Staunton branch at 7301 St. James Road in Holiday Shores, an unincorporated community north of Edwardsville. Surgant, 51, was arrested Monday at her home in the 1800 block of Sextant Drive in Holiday Shores. A judge set her bail at $25,000. Charges say she took the money between Nov. 1 and Jan. 20.

ST. LOUIS > Credit union is robbed • The Gateway Metro Federal Credit Union, inside the AT&T building at 1001 Pine Street, was robbed about 12:20 p.m. Thursday, police said. It was the fourth financial institution robbery in the area in two days. The robber showed a note that said he had a weapon. On Wednesday, there were robberies at First Bank at 7256 Gravois Avenue in St. Louis, about 11 a.m.; Reliance Bank at 8083 Watson Road in Webster Groves, about 12:30 p.m.; and U.S. Bank at 4301 Lindell Boulevard in St. Louis, about 3:30 p.m.

ST. LOUIS > DNA leads to assault charge • A St. Louis man has been charged with a 2008 assault on a police officer after he was matched to DNA from a baseball cap left at the scene. Theodis L. Polk, 20, of the 4100 block of Enright Avenue, was charged Thursday in St. Louis Circuit Court with first-degree assault on an officer. According to charges, Polk shot at an officer's car near Linton Avenue and 20th Street and the officer returned fire, hitting Polk in the leg. Police said Polk dropped his gun and baseball cap when he was struck, then escaped. In unrelated incidents, Polk was charged with vehicle tampering in 2010 and leaving the scene of the accident in 2011. Police said that after the DNA match, police said Polk confessed to the shooting. He was held in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.

ST. LOUIS > Teen held in burglaries • A teenager has been charged in a string of home burglaries on Blaine and McRee avenues in the Botanical Heights neighborhood. According to charges, there were six break-ins in November and December, split evenly between the two streets. Police say Harrell Birts, 17, of the 400 block of Whittier Street, confessed that he and others were responsible and had been carrying pistols. Birts has been charged with 12 counts of burglary and stealing. A judge ordered him held, with bail set at $150,000.

EAST ST. LOUIS > Two are held in killing • A woman and her boyfriend have been accused in Wednesday morning's shooting death of her father, police said Thursday. Chastity I. Butler and Devin D. Teer were charged with first-degree murder in the death of Chadwick Butler, 38. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds when he stepped out of his home in the 3500 block of Bond Avenue around 12:22 a.m. Officers found him in his driveway. Police did not provide ages or addresses for the defendants.

SPRINGFIELD, MO. > Severed arm is found • Police were searching for a person whose severed arm was found Monday by BNSF railroad workers in a train yard. No one with such an injury has showed up at any Springfield-area hospital. Greene County medical examiner Tom Van De Berg said it is the right arm of a Caucasian, severed below the elbow, and probably had been there for several days. Van De Berg said the injury could be survivable with prompt medical attention.
