ST. PETERS > Man gets 13 years for statutory sodomy — Kevin Wayne Weckherlin, 30, of the first block of Fairlane Circle in Warrenton, pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree statutory sodomy and was sentenced to 13 years in prison. He admitted to having sexual contact with a relative in the hot tub at the St. Peters Rec-Plex in October 2010. Police said another person witnessed the contact and notified the lifeguard, who called park rangers. Weckherlin will have to serve 85 percent of his sentence, or about 11 years.
BERKELEY > Woman killed, husband wounded when shots fired into bedroom — Several shots fired through the bedroom window of a Berkeley home early Sunday killed Jemila Hubbard, 38, and critically injured her husband, police say. Berkeley Police Chief Frank McCall Jr. said police were called just before 1 a.m. Sunday to a home in the 8400 block of Buckthorn Drive. The couple's teenage daughter, who was at the home but uninjured, called 911 to say her parents had been shot. Police found the couple in the bedroom. "We're not 100 percent sure of the motive, but we do not believe this is a random incident," McCall said. "We're still trying to piece everything together.
ST. LOUIS > Woman is charged in death of boyfriend — Rachel Taylor, 18, of the 3300 block of Minnesota Avenue, was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the stabbing death of her boyfriend. She was jailed Monday in lieu of $350,000 cash bail. Police say Taylor stabbed Bernard Robinson, 24, in the neck with a knife, killing him on Jan. 7 at a home in the 3300 block of Minnesota Avenue. Robinson lived in the 3300 block of Virginia Avenue.
ST. LOUIS > Three are charged in fatal shooting — Three men have been charged in the fatal shooting of a Ferguson man in a drug deal in St. Louis, authorities say. Prosecutors have charged Jerry Shelton, 18, of St. Louis County, with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and drug distribution and/or possession. T.J. Hill, 19, of the first block of Spring Avenue in Ferguson, was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action. Michael Rosner, 19, of St. Peters, who allegedly accompanied Robert McGartland on a drug deal when McGartland was fatally shot, is charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and a drug possession and/or distribution. It was not immediately clear Monday from court filings who was intending to buy drugs from whom. Police say McGartland, 20, of Ferguson, quarreled with a gunman and was shot in the chest. He died at the scene. The gunman, who has not yet been arrested or charged, shot McGartland and ran away with a backpack containing marijuana, police said. Shelton, Hill and Rosner were jailed Monday in lieu of $100,000 cash bail. Rosner's booking photo was not available Monday afternoon.
ST. LOUIS > Teen found dead in car involved in exchange of gunfire — A teen riding in a car was killed when someone in the car exchanged gunfire with others on a St. Louis street Sunday night, police say. The shots were exchanged just before 10 p.m. Sunday at Lillian and Thrush avenues. Police said they were called by a man, 18, who said he was fired at from a black Pontiac Bonneville. He wasn't injured. A short time later, officers using spike strips stopped the Bonneville. When the car stopped, the driver ran off. Police found a passenger dead in the car. Deotray Tribbitt, 16, of the 4300 block of College Avenue, had been shot in the head. After a short chase, police arrested the driver, 20, at Holly and West Florissant avenues in the O'Fallon Park neighborhood. Police also arrested the 18-year-old man who had originally called police.
WENTZVILLE > Investigation continues into church hall shooting — Wentzville police and prosecutors still need to meet to determine whether charges will be filed in an apparent accidental shooting following a fundraiser Saturday night for a cancer patient at a Wentzville church. The victim, a 23-year-old man, was in serious but stable condition Monday, Wentzville Police Chief Lisa Harrison said. She declined to say where he had been shot. She said detectives may meet with prosecutors Wednesday if the investigation is complete. Officers responded to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 405 South Church Street, about 11:20 p.m. A trivia night fundraiser had just finished and cleanup was under way, including balloons being popped, when a man realized he had been shot. At 8:45 a.m. Sunday, a person who saw news coverage of the shooting came to the Wentzville police station, and police said after meeting with that person and several others who came forward they believe the shooting was unintentional.
WEBSTER GROVES > Webster U. hall is vandalized — A hazardous materials team was called to Webster University on Monday morning to investigate a substance used in the vandalism of Webster Hall, but the university said there was no danger. The university building was vandalized sometime over the weekend, according to Webster University. A "nontoxic substance" was found and authorities came to check out the substance, according to a statement released by the school. A statement from the university had few details. "At no time did we think that anyone was in danger," the university said.
EAST ST. LOUIS > Aviation company official is sentenced for fraud — An aviation company official was sentenced Monday in East St. Louis to probation, a fine and ordered to repay $300,000 to the government. Charles R. Priestly, 48, ran a Louisiana company called Hummingbird Aviation. Although he won a contract to supply helicopters and personnel to the U.S. Transportation Command for use in Afghanistan, the Federal Aviation Administration denied clearance for Hummingbird to operate there, killing the deal. Both the command's headquarters and contracting office are at Scott Air Force Base. Hummingbird was entitled to compensation for its expenses, but Priestly submitted a fraudulent claim that included $300,000 for two months of helicopter leasing, prosecutors said. At his guilty plea to a felony charge of making a false, fictitious and fraudulent claim to the federal government, Priestly admitted backdating a contract and billing the government for nonexistent expenses, prosecutors said. After the plea, he was sentenced to five years of probation, a $4,000 fine and ordered to pay restitution. Priestly lives in Haiti, court filings show.
ST. LOUIS > Driver who killed woman at gas station had drugs in system, police say — Police say the driver who plowed through a filling station in September 2010, killing a mother of two who had stopped for gas, had huffed freon before getting behind the wheel and was also high on a mix of oxycodone and marijuana. Anthony Rancilio, 28, of the 200 block of East Union in Maryville, has been charged in St. Louis Circuit Court with first-degree involuntary manslaughter. According to charges, medical records showed Rancilio was impaired by levels of oxycodone and marijuana in his system at the time of the Sept. 13 crash that killed Molly McBride, 38. A tank of freon was also found in Rancilio's car, according to charges. Police said a witness told them Rancilio has a history of inhaling freon, and had passed out before while driving after huffing it.
ST. LOUIS > Man accused in rape now faces HIV-related charges — A St. Louis man accused of dousing his estranged girlfriend with lighter fluid and threatening to set her on fire as he raped her has now also been charged with recklessly infecting another woman with HIV. Jermaine Johnson, 26, of the 400 block of Meacham, was charged Monday in St. Louis Circuit Court on four counts of the felony. According to charges, Johnson never told a woman who he was intimate with between January 2009 to December 2011 that he was HIV positive, even though state health records show that he knew as early as 2006. Johnson already faces a range of felonies for allegedly forcing his way into his estranged girlfriend's home in the 4400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue on the evening of Sept. 12, pouring barbecue starter fluid on the woman, and attacking her, according to court documents. Johnson remains at large.
ST. LOUIS > Jail inmate gets 14 years in escape — An inmate who escaped from the city Justice Center on April 22 pleaded guilty to the jailbreak on Monday and received the maximum sentence. David G. White, 34, of the 5600 block of Hamilton Avenue in St. Louis County, was sentenced to 14 years in jail for one count each of escaping from custody and damaging jail property. Authorities said White and another inmate escaped from the state-of-the-art facility by climbing through a ceiling panel in the infirmary, breaking a window, crawling down the glass facade with several bedsheets tied together, then jumping 25 feet to Tucker Boulevard below. The two men were on the lam for less than 24 hours. The case against the other inmate is pending.
