Firefighters in the village of Riverview found a man dead today after extinguishing a small fire inside an apartment complex, officials said.

Riverview firefighters responded to a fire call at Ridgeview Apartments, 9600 block of Diamond Drive, at 5:15 a.m. Sunday. The fire was quickly extinguished, said a fire official. 

Firefighters found the unresponsive man inside. The victim's identification was being withheld pending notification of relatives.

St. Louis County police, as part of normal protocol, are investigating the fatal fire.

Riverview is just north of St. Louis city.
