FRANKLIN COUNTY • A Saint James woman was killed and three others injured Friday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 44 southwest of Saint Clair, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.
Judith I. Twente, 68, died when the Dodge Ram she was driving overturned and crashed about 12:10 p.m. as the pickup truck merged onto the highway from a rest area. Two children, Blake A. Gilliam, 6, and Lucas R. Gilliam, 4, suffered minor injuries in the crash. Dominique M. Gilliam, 25, was seriously hurt. The Gilliams, of Rolla, were transported to Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan for treatment.
Twente was merging onto westbound I-44 when her truck began sliding on the wet pavement. She then overcorrected, the highway patrol said, and the truck overturned and crashed off the left side of the roadway, coming to rest on its roof. Twente was not wearing her seat belt, the highway patrol said.
