ST. LOUIS COUNTY • A south St. Louis county man has been charged with stealing over $30,000 from Because We Care, a business created to promote philanthropy and help charities raise money.

Craig C. Wicker, 53, was charged on Dec. 18, with stealing over $25,000 and fraudulent use of a credit or debit card.

St. Louis County police say Wicker misappropriated more than $30,000 from the business and used the company's credit card to pay personal bills like cable, internet, and utilities.  Wicker, according to charging documents, said he was justified in making the credit card payments because he worked from his own house.  He denied stealing the $30,000.

Wicker was arrested and held on $25,000 bail.

Wicker is listed as the president of Because We Care, which advertises itself as an events planning company.  It has assisted numerous area charities throughout the years.
