ST. LOUIS • Thieves used a tow truck to yank a large safe from a Family Dollar store early Monday morning, police said.

Police said the incident happened around 4:20 a.m. Someone broke out a window at the business, in the 5400 block of Southwest Avenue, and ripped the safe from inside the store. Police said it was unknown how much money was in the safe.

The tow truck was found in the area in the 5700 block of Reber Place. It had been abandoned and set on fire. Police said it likely was stolen, though no theft report currently exists.
