PIKE COUNTY • A St. Louis man was killed Monday evening when his pickup crashed on Highway 61 in Pike County.

Police say John D. Stuertz, 48, of St. Louis, died in the 6:30 p.m. crash Monday on Highway 61, south of East Outer Road 61.

Stuertz was driving north on Highway 61 in a 2000 Ford F150 truck. The truck ran off the left side of the road and hit a sign and embankment, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol.

The truck then crossed over East Outer Road 61, struck a bed of rocks in the median and overturned several times, the patrol said. Stuertz, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the truck.

It was unclear whether weather played a role in the crash.
