ST. LOUIS • A man pulled a gun and shot a teenager in the buttocks Thursday after the teen punched him in the face, police say.

The shooting happened at 1:15 p.m. Thursday in the 2100 block of South Jefferson Avenue. The teen was treated at a hospital and released.

No arrests have been made yet. Police are still investigating and could seek assault charges against the man and the teen, said Katie O'Sullivan, a spokeswoman for the St. Louis Police Department.

The incident began when the 46-year-old man got into an argument with the 18-year-old male. The teen punched the man in the face.

According to a police summary, the man told police he "feared for his safety, so he took out a gun and fired one shot."

O'Sullivan said the man who fired the shot had a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

The two had quarreled before the fight, so police aren't suspecting this had anything to do with recent unprovoked "Knockout Game" attacks in St. Louis.
