ST. LOUIS • A driver was critically injured in a shooting in the Delmar Loop at Skinker and Delmar boulevards about 7 p.m. Sunday.

The 21-year-old man and a passenger were stopped in traffic southbound on Skinker just north of Delmar when a black SUV stopped behind his vehicle, police said. An assailant got out of the SUV and fired several times at the driver. He was struck in the back, police said.

The victim backed his vehicle up, hitting another vehicle, then drove south and turned east on Delmar, where he lost control and struck two more vehicles.

The passenger in the victim's vehicle ran off and stole a car, police said. Drugs and a 9mm pistol were found in the car.

Police were continuing to search for the shooter and were asking for help identifying the passenger who got out of the car. Police released a video of the incident from a red light camera and are asking anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-8477.
