CLAYTON • Gabriel Williams, 22, of the 5500 block of Lucas-Hunt Road, was charged Sunday with multiple counts of burglary, robbery, armed criminal action, kidnapping and felonious restraint stemming from two robbery attempts - one of which involved holding a couple hostage.

According to police, two suspects approached a man Saturday as he did yard work at his home in the 50 block of Arundel, in Clayton's Demun neighborhood. The suspects, both armed, demanded money.

One of them remained at the house with the female resident, while the other ordered the man to escort him to the Richmond Heights Schnucks to get cash. While at Schnucks, the man alerted a security guard, who contacted Clayton and Richmond Heights police.

The suspect then left Schnucks for University City, where he allegedly committed a street robbery in the 7000 block of Northmoor Drive.

Clayton police arrested one of the suspects at the house on Arundel, where he surrendered and was turned over to juvenile authorities. Richmond Heights police later arrested Williams. Neither victim was injured. Williams' bond is set at $200,000.
