UPDATED at 7:30 a.m. Friday with new detail on gunman's vehicle.

ST. LOUIS • A man was shot to death after a road rage incident late Wednesday night in north St. Louis, police say.

The gunman is still on the loose.

Christopher Walton-Jones, 19, was fatally shot after a passenger in his car became involved in an altercation with another motorist in the 8500 block of North Broadway.

The shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday near Hickey Park.

Moments earlier, Walton-Jones had been driving south on North Broadway. Someone driving east on Wall Street in a dark-colored pickup turned onto North Broadway, nearly hitting Walton-Jones' car.

The passenger riding with Walton-Jones started quarreling with the pickup's driver.

Walton-Jones tried to drive away, but someone in the pickup fired a shot at Walton-Jones' car. The bullet hit Walton-Jones under his armpit. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died. His passenger was uninjured.

The gunman's vehicle was described as a black Chevy, extended cab truck with a dull paint job.

Walton-Jones lived in the 8500 block of Concord Place in the Baden neighborhood of St. Louis.
