St. Charles County Medical Examiner Dr. Mary Case said Schlogl's official cause of death was drowning. No evidence suggested that Schlogl hit his head or suffered any kind of heart defect. She said toxicology reports are being conducted, but the results may not be known for up to six weeks.
Our earlier story:
Cole Schlogl, 17, drowned early Monday while boating in the "big lake" here with six friends, Police Chief Mike Force said. Schlogl, of Florissant, disappeared after jumping in for a last-minute swim about 50 feet from shore as the group returned to the dock at Woodlands Marina. Rescuers were summoned about 12:52 a.m. and found the body about three hours later. Force said foul play was not suspected. The Missouri Water Patrol charged one person aboard with boating while intoxicated, but officials do not believe that had any bearing on the death. Schlogl was described as an accomplished athlete when he was a student at Trinity High School in Spanish Lake.
