The SUV passenger riding shotgun wanted a roadside fight. Instead, she caused a four-car crash that injured seven.
Illinois State Police said three women were headed south on Interstate 55/70 about 3:15 a.m. today. The woman in the front passenger seat wanted the driver, Cori Jarmon, 33, of St. Louis to pull the white Ford Explorer over so the front passenger could fight the backseat passenger on the right shoulder of the road, near the 6.8 mile marker in the Metro East area.
The front passenger then grabbed the steering wheel and jerked the wheel to the right and the Explorer ran off the road. Jarmon over corrected. As the Explorer began to overturn, it was struck by two other vehicles, a blue Hyundai Sonata and a black GMC Envoy.
The Hyundai was then struck by a fourth vehicle, a black Toyota Tundra.
The three women in the Explorer were taken to St. Louis University Hospital. Jarmon sustained serious injuries, police said. The conditions of the two passengers, Anna Jarmon, 28, of Maryland Heights, and Christina Kelly, 25, of St. Louis were not immediately available. It was unclear from the police report whether it was Anna Jarmon or Kelly in the front passenger seat.
The two occupants of the Hyundai were knocked unconscious and the injuries were listed by police as serious. They were taken by helicopter to hospitals. Police identified them as Michael Adams, 22, of Swansea and Michael Lively, 34, of Collinsville.
The two occupants of the GMC received minor injuries but refused treatment. The driver of the Toyota was not injured, but was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
