TROY, MO • A Warren County woman is recovering from severe bumps and bruises, and a Troy woman and her teenage son are in jail after an apparent road rage incident in Lincoln County earlier this week.

Matthew R. Maschino, 17, and Mary Maschino, 44, of the 6000 block of Kiethley Road in Troy, were each charged with felonious restraint, aggravated stalking and three counts of assault. Matthew Maschino also faces charges of resisting arrest and armed criminal action.

They're accused of kicking the woman, hitting her with a plastic ratchet kit toolbox, dragging her by her hair under their truck's tires and threatening to run over her.

Police say the incident happened about 3 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 61 near Highway KK. Bonnie Crawford, 55, was driving in her truck with her sister Janna Daugherty, 50, and niece Brittany Daugherty, 14, of Wright City.

Crawford said in an interview Friday that she slowed to turn onto KK, which apparently upset the Maschinos, who were driving behind her. Crawford said Matthew Maschino, who was driving, forced her off the side of the road. They both stopped their trucks, and Crawford walked back to talk to them. "What is your problem?" she recalls asking.

That's when the Maschinos attacked her, she said, hitting her in the face with the black plastic ratchet tool kit, dragging her under the wheels of their truck and holding her there while Matthew Maschino kicked her in the head with his boots, she said. Crawford said they told her they were going to hold her there under the truck and run her over. She said they also threatened to shoot them.

Janna Daugherty tried to pull the Maschinos off her sister, she told police, but Matthew Maschino threw her down the embankment beside the road. Meanwhile, Daugherty's daughter called police. When a deputy tried to arrest Matthew Maschino, he resisted and tried to hit the deputy in the head, court documents say.

"It was a nightmare," Daugherty said Friday.

Crawford said it hurts to move, she has a black eye, and large hunks of her hair were torn out. She said she probably should have stayed in her truck.

"Hindsight is 20-20, I guess," she said.

A $50,000 cash-only bail was set for each Maschino.
