A veteran Maryland Heights police officer who was shot in the face early Saturday, underwent surgery Monday morning.
St. Louis County police said detective Sgt. Joe Eagan is expected to recover, but may face additional surgeries, including reconstructive surgery.
Eagan was shot at 2:35 a.m. Saturday while conducting an investigation in Jennings. Maryland Heights Chief Tom O'Connor said the shooter most likely was not involved with that investigation.
The 25-year-veteran was shot on Jennings Station Road near Interstate 70 while sitting in an unmarked police vehicle.
No one is in custody for the shooting. The city of Maryland Heights, with the assistance of Crimestoppers, is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the shooter.
Anyone with information should call County Police at 314-889-2341 or Crimestoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
