ST. LOUIS COUNTY  •  Legislation was introduced Tuesday before the St. Louis County Council to prohibit county government purchases of any apparel manufactured under sweatshop conditions.

County Councilman Pat Dolan, D-Richmond Heights, sponsored the bill.

“The whole idea is to discourage sweatshop products,” Dolan said before Tuesday's regular council meeting in Clayton. He added, “Hopefully, the alternative will be to purchase American-made products.”

The bill would apply to any uniforms, shoes, garments and accessories purchased for county employees.
