ST. LOUIS • Vote now or vote later -- a line is unlikely in any of the city wards taking part in today's primary election.
Half of St. Louis' 28 Wards -- the even-numbered ones -- will weigh-in on aldermanic contests, most of which are uncontested. With only a handful of challengers, turnout is expected to register below 20 percent.
Board of Aldermen President Lewis Reed is on the citywide ballot, but no other Democrat has opted to stand in the way of his second term. Reed needs only to defeat a Green Party candidate next month to clinch another four years at the helm of the city's legislative body.
For those still seeking intrigue on a slow day, Kacie Star Triplett in the Sixth Ward (Lafayette Square, the Loft District) has attracted a spirited challenger in defense attorney Brad Kessler. Upsets are possible in the 16th Ward -- St. Louis Hills and environs -- and the 20th Ward, which covers Gravois Park in the near South Side.
The 24th Ward (Dogtown, Clifton Heights) has a crowded contest as well.
Polls close at 7 p.m. With the light turnout, results -- which will be posted on Political Fix -- could be available as early as 10 p.m.
