The patrons of the Lure Nightclub on Washington Avenue have caused street fights, fired gunshots, been "lewd and indecent" and garnered multiple police and neighbor complaints, according to a letter the city is sending the club's owners today.
The letter requires Lure owners to come to a hearing where city Excise Commissioner Robert Kraiberg could suspend or even remove the bar's liquor license, in effect closing the club.
Lure owner Nick Trupiano and manager Rob Olsen have denied the club has been a part of such violent activity.
But the city is not sending such letters to Club 15, on Locust Street, or the Sugar Lounge, on Washington Avenue, which have also faced criticism recently.
Instead, city staff said they are working with the two clubs to come to mutual agreements on keeping patrons safe and downtown residents happy. That may include added expenses for the clubs, such as additional security guards, cameras, or other such measures.
Such negotiations, unlike the formal hearing for Lure, do not carry with them the threat of license suspension or removal.
The city's letter sets Lure's hearing for 2 p.m. August 27.
