The burgeoning Missouri Political News Service brings us two possible names to replace outgoing State Supreme Court Judge Ronnie White: Brenda L. Talent and Gerald Reynolds.

Both are intriguing candidates, with, if nothing else, divergent geographic appeal.

Reynolds is assistant general counsel for Kansas City Power & Light. In 2004, he was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, a post he continues to hold.

Reynolds' c.v. also includes time in the U.S. Department of Education, and the Department of Justice.

Talent, the wife of former U.S. Senator Jim Talent, is a name that will be at least more familiar on this side of the state, if not to Republicans all over Missouri.

Brenda Talent is a tax attorney for Bryan Cave, an adjunct professor at Washington University, and a former member of the Parkway School Board. She is also, as Jo Mannies' profile of her before last year's election reads, one heck of a campaigner:

She enthusiastically addresses political crowds, often on her husband's behalf, with a polished ease that reflects her years as a prominent tax attorney. As Jim's chief substitute on the campaign, Brenda frequently appears before women's groups and other target audiences.

And while he often exudes a folksy, low-key style, she prefers to cut to the political chase. For years on the campaign trail, it's generally been Brenda Talent who delivers the most pointed jabs at the opposition. She often hammers away harder than he does.

The profile says Brenda Talent has reached nearly every personal goal, becoming a “high-school valedictorian, Army veteran, law partner, dog and horse enthusiast and mother of three."

Will she be able to add Supreme Court judge to the list?
