ST. JACOB • Mayor Raymond Muñiz of St. Jacob has been elected president of the Illinois Municipal League.
Muñiz was elected on Sept. 17 during the organization's annual conference in Chicago.
Muñiz has been mayor of St. Jacob, population 1,098, since 2001. Before becoming mayor, he had been a village trustee and a member of the village's zoning board.
"I am looking forward to representing the Illinois Municipal League at the state and regional level and protecting the interests of municipalities, and more importantly, our residents," he said. "I hope my presidency sets and example that in spite of how large a community is, you can have a voice and an impact in Springfield."
