LITCHFIELD, Ill. -- A 15-year-old girl from Jerseyville was killed by contact with a boat propeller Saturday on Lake Lou Yaeger, a spokesman for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources confirmed Monday afternoon.
The girl's name was not disclosed, but department spokesman Chris McCloud said the boat was operated by her father, Eric W. Hazelwonder.
McCloud said the boat was anchored in a cove with several other boats and Hazelwonder was trying to pull out of the cove when the girl was hit. McCloud said conservation police continued to investigate the incident.
Lake Lou Yaeger is a reservoir of nearly 1,300 acres east of Litchfield and about 50 miles northeast of St. Louis.
