SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Illinois voters who want a say in the state's redistricting process have about one month to attend hearings and provide feedback to the state Senate's redistricting committee.
On Wednesday, the committee announced five public hearings, to provide an opportunity for citizen input as they draw new boundaries for the state's legislative districts based on 2010 census data.
Hearings will be held in Chicago and suburban Cicero, Springfield, Kankakee and Peoria.
The Springfield hearing, the closest location for Metro East citizens, will be held Wednesday, April 6 at a time to be determined. (Check here for schedule updates.)
Census figures showed the Metro East to be one of the fastest-growing areas in Illinois -- Madison and St. Clair counties remain among the 10 largest in the state.
Citizens are asked to provide input on how existing district boundaries have impacted various communities and discuss census data and population trends. The committee is not expected to propose any new maps at these hearings.
