A fire Friday evening at a Kirkwood apartment complex forced 22 people out of their homes and sent a firefighter and a resident to the hospital with minor injuries.
Crews from Kirkwood and surrounding fire departments responded about10 p.m. to a fire in a second-story apartment in the Kirkwood Bluffs Apartments on Timberview Road.
Rescue workers pulled an incoherent man in the apartment to safety, said a firefighter with the Kirkwood department. The resident along with a Kirkwood firefighter were treated for minor injuries, he said.
No other injuries were reported.
The fire was contained to the one apartment.
Workers were forced to knock down several doors to gain access to other apartments during an initial search of the building.
They also rescued several pets and returned them to their owners, the firefighter said.
