A Ballwin woman who had been missing since Wednesday was found today near the Daniel Boone Bridge in Chesterfield, police said.

A call at 10:30 a.m. sent police to check on a woman under the bridge, and they discovered it was Susan Allen.

Allen was dirty and bitten by mosquitoes and was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, according to Chesterfield police Lt. Tom Tucker.

"She was not pleased with life and had run away from home," Tucker said.

ST. LOUIS • Susan Allen was a week and a half into her new job at a cashier's office at the University of Missouri-St. Louis when she disappeared earlier this week without a trace, her husband, Jeff Allen, said Friday,

Allen said he last saw his wife Wednesday morning before she left their Ballwin home to head to work. She had to get up early that day for a 7 a.m. meeting, he said.

The university said Susan Allen did not return from her lunch break that day.

Jeff Allen said his wife of almost 28 years has never gone missing before.

"I just don't know what would have happened," he said. "She disappeared somewhere there on campus — for what reason, I don't know."

Susan Allen had a cell phone she carried with her for emergencies, but there has been no activity on it, police told him. Her car was still on campus, so he went to pick it up Friday.

Allen said police don't seem to have any leads.

"They've done a thorough search of the whole campus and the buildings," he said. "I'm just sitting by the phone and just trying to do anything I can to help the police, which isn't very much. … I'm hoping for a miracle."

Before she started working at the student center at UMSL, Susan Allen worked part-time at a hearing aid company for several months. She had been laid off from her previous job last September when the company downsized, her husband said.

Susan Allen, 55, is 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighs about 185 pounds. She was last seen wearing a light-color top and dark slacks.
