(Editor's Note: This story was updated to correct that earlier grant was from Great Rivers Greenway.)

The Board of Aldermen has approved entering into a federal trail grant agreement for a proposed asphalt trail from Legion Park to Route 66 State Park.

The grant, for $263,713, would cover 80 percent of the project. The city has already received a $100,000 grant from Great Rivers Greenway for the project. Mayor Kevin Coffey said the projected cost is in the low $400,000 range.

Coffey said the hope is one day to connect trails from neighboring cities and beyond.
