ELLISVILLE — The City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved a resolution in support of state legislation that would change the sales tax redistribution system in St. Louis County.
Ellisville is a point-of-sale city, meaning that it generally has a prosperous retail component. Each year the percentage of sales tax revenue the city chips into a pool shared with other cities and unincorporated areas of the county has steadily increased. Last year, it meant about $792,198 in lost revenue for Ellisville, the resolution said.
The state legislation the council backed was proposed by Chesterfield and could allow that city and others to change from a pool to a point-of-sale city. It also would put caps on the amount of tax sharing.
Ellisville Mayor Matt Pirrello said the proposal is not a permanent solution to problems with sales tax distribution in the county.
