— Snowy owls range in size from 20 to 28 inches. Their wingspan is 4.2 to 4.8 feet.

— In the wild, the owls generally live for about 9½ years. In captivity, they can live 35 years.

— An adult can eat up to five lemmings (which weigh a few ounces) each day.

— Pairs usually mate for life. Females lay from three to 11 eggs at a time in nests built on the ground.
