ST. LOUIS COUNTY • Time to cover the plants.

National Weather Service officials say a freeze watch is in effect for the St. Louis area, with temperatures expected to dip below freezing in the early morning hours Wednesday.

Meteorologist Jim Sieveking said a watch is in place early to warn residents that freezing temperatures are coming. He said plants need to be covered during the early morning hours Wednesday to help avoid them being lost to the freeze. Residents who have already prepared their pools for use this year have nothing to fear, he said.

“The pools will be fine because water holds a lot of heat,” he said. “Plants are more susceptible because some people have gone out and bought their annuals already.”
