ST. CHARLES   •   A young man who had to be rescued from a lake after spending about 30 minutes underwater has died, police say.

Authorities also on Friday identified the man as James Harrell, 20, of St. Louis.

The drowning was reported at 4:22 p.m. at a lake in the 3600 block of Galt House Drive. Police said friends who were swimming with Harrell told officers he dove into the lake and did not resurface.

Rescuers pulled Harrell from the lake about 30 minutes after he went under and he was rushed to the hospital, where he had been listed in critical condition Thursday night.
