St. Charles Police are investigating the death of a student at Lindenwood University who apparently jumped to his death from his residence hall early today.

The student has been identified by the university as Michael Black, a freshman from Colorado Springs, Colo.

St. Charles Police said they are investigating the student's death as a suicide. Police received a call about the incident at 12:50 a.m.

An email was sent out to students, faculty and staff today by the university's president, James D. Evans.

In the email, Evans expressed sorrow in announcing the death of Black. Evans said the student jumped from a window in the upper floor of his residence hall.

"We all lose a significant part of ourselves when a member of the Lindenwood family departs from our world," Evans said in the email. Evans said counselors will be available today in the Spellmann Center.
