ST. CHARLES COUNTY • The man who died at a sewer facility in the 3400 block of Highway 94 early this afternoon has been identified by officials as Steven Webb, 53, of House Springs.
Webb was working at the Boschertown sanitary lift station, which is a St. Charles city facility. He worked for Coatings Unlimited of Bridgeton, a subcontractor doing work at the sewer plant.
Webb was last seen a little after 11 a.m., officials said. A foreman alerted officials around noon, after Webb did not respond to calls.
His body was about 30 feet below ground, officials said. It's unclear what caused his death, but fire officials said that a monitor detected hazardous air, which could mean low oxygen or some type of hazardous fumes.
