Repairs to the Daniel Boone Bridge will cut off westbound Highway 40 between the Chesterfield Valley and St. Charles County for two weekends in September, Missouri transportation officials said today.

That means people traveling from St. Louis to Mizzou football games against McNeese State and San Diego State universities may need to change their travel plans.

Westbound Highway 40 will be closed the weekends of Sept. 10-13 and Sept. 17-20.

Drivers are being urged to use Interstate 70, Highway 370 or the Page Avenue extension (Route 364) to get to St. Charles County.

MoDOT closed Highway 40 in the same location last weekend. While the agency posted warnings on electronic message boards, some westbound drivers still found their way to the closed stretch of highway.

"We did have a number of complaints," said MoDOT spokesman Andrew Gates. "But that being said, traffic flowed well."

Missouri transportation officials say the preventive maintenance work is necessary. The bridge is used by 75,000 vehicles a day.
