Cottleville, Mo. - Mid-Rivers Soccer Club, one of the up-and-coming clubs in the St. Louis metropolitan area and the oldest continuing soccer club in St. Charles County, has just announced the formation of a new competitive high school girls' team. The team, coached by Matt Berra, is seeking experienced players with a combination of skill, spirit and a desire to learn more about soccer.

"We're looking for solid players who have played club and high school soccer and want to go farther," Coach Berra said. "Even though so many kids in this area play soccer when they're young, not many pursue the game to the next level." Consequently, as the majority of young soccer players leave the sport during high school to join other activities, better-quality players are often left behind without strong teams or creative programs to develop their skills. "We're building the new MRSC girls' team to provide these athletes with an opportunity to play hard, bond with like-minded teammates, and, well, win."

In return for one of the lowest club fees around, MRSC supplies study-and-practice training to its club members. Currently, Pete Collico, who played at the prep, collegiate and pro levels, and Sarit Shenar, a member of the Israeli National Women's Team and FC St. Louis, serve as the club's trainers. Club members also have access to the MRSC Training Facility, which opened its doors in Summer 2007.

The new competitive high school girls' team will host two kick-arounds: 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 11 and at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 17. Tryouts for the new team are scheduled at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 28 and 11 a.m. Sunday, June 29. All events will be held at the training facility located at 5850 Highway N. Girls ages 15 to 18 are welcome.
