Hillsboro Hawks Marching Band Takes Second Place

Hillsboro Hawks Marching Band won Second Place in their division, seven schools with enrollment of 751 to 1105 students, at the 40th Annual Washington Marching Band Festival.  The band narrowly out-scored Winsdor's Golden Brigade for the second of two competitions in which they will compete together this year.

The Hawks also won first place in the only two sub-category awards, Percussion, claiming the top-spot they just barely missed at the Farmington Marching Band Competition, and Auxiliary, better known as the Color Guard, for the second time this season.

The 2008 Hillsboro Hawks Marching Band, led by Drum Majors Nicole Copeland and Susan Stephens, is under the direction of Brett Myers, Tim Dedert, and Kevin Blair.  This year's show is "Oriental Inspirations," and includes music, costumes, and instruments representing the theme.  The students have also added Tai Chi into the choreography.

The Hillsboro Junior High Band attended the competition to cheer on their older counterparts.  Many of the Junior High students felt this was an educational experience as they will be participating in the Marching Band next year and were excited to be there when the band placed.

The Band will next perform on Friday, October 10, 2008, during both the Homecoming Parade and the Homecoming Game.  Their next competition will be Bands of America at the Edward Jones Dome on October 17 followed by the 13th Annual Route 66 Marching Band Classic in Rolla on October 25.  For information, schedule, or to help with the band visit the Hillsboro Hawks Band Booster website at http://www.hillsborohawksbandboosters.org/.
