ST. LOUIS - August 2009 -. Cheryl Haney, Director of Possibilities for the Aries Company, was recently presented the prestigious Bob Bargen Award by the St. Louis Chapter of the International Special Events Society (ISES). Haney received the award as part of the organization's Annual Board Installation Dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Clayton, Missouri.
"Cheryl has shown an unwavering commitment to our chapter playing innumerable key roles during her eight years as a member," commented ISES St. Louis president, LaTonya Thomas. "However, last year her dedication to the industry truly shined as she helped coordinate support efforts for our colleagues impacted by the Deer Creek flood."
In September 2008, two ISES members had their businesses devastated by the Deer Creek flood. Haney spearheaded an effort to deliver meals to the companies as they worked hard to keep business running as usual while they cleaned their facilities, recovered what inventory had survived and prepared for their future. For more than two weeks, her relief effort provided two meals a day to not only the ISES members impacted, but also their employees proving to be immensely helpful in the recovery process.
These relief efforts combined with Haney's long-standing efforts to support the St. Louis Chapter of ISES through active committee and volunteer efforts made her a clear choice for the Bob Bargen Award. The award presented once a year to an ISES St. Louis member is named after St. Louis native and founder of ISES, Bob Bargen. Bargen was the first recipient of the award in 1999 and has since played a personal role in choosing a member of the ISES St. Louis chapter who exemplifies dedication to not only the chapter, but the industry as a whole.
"Bob's dedication to the event industry is an inspiration to us all," commented Haney. "It is such a privilege and an honor to be part of this select group who has received the Bob Bargen Award."
