Broadband Stimulus Could Save Lives and Cash

Another Potential Katrina Being Ignored in SE Missouri!

St. Louis - September 3, 2009 - ShowMe Broadband, a project of St. Louis Broadband, is applying for $37 Million in stimulus funds, not only bring broadband to 13 rural counties, but to build a "ride for free" Public Safety network as well.

The ShowMe Broadband project is located in Southeast Missouri, within the New Madrid fault zone.

In a report filed in November 2008, The U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency warned that a serious earthquake in the New Madrid Seismic Zone could result in "the highest economic losses due to a natural disaster in the United States," further predicting "widespread and catastrophic" damage across Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and particularly Tennessee, where a 7.7 magnitude quake or greater would cause damage to tens of thousands of structures affecting water distribution, transportation systems, and other vital infrastructure.

To complie this problem, there are 467 abandoned and active mines that entire communities are built upon.

There is another potential Katrina being ignored in this region!

ShowMe Broadband intends to address this problem by installing a FREE Public Safety network within their fixed wireless network coverage. This network will proactively address a potential disaster of catastrophic nature.

The project also intends to bring fixed wireless technologies to rural areas that would provide 3.3 Mbps symmetric service and up to 5 Mbps symmetric service for line of sight customers.

The ShowMe Broadband project will pass: 112,572 Households • 9,975 Businesses • 19 Community Anchor Institutions • 14 Hospitals • 95 Fire Departments • 27 Police Stations • 128 Schools • 27 Libraries.
