Awardees will receive an original Designs by Greta creation

ST. LOUIS, May 4, 2009 -- Local jewelry designer Greta Whaley has been given honor to create an original necklace for each of the twelve 2009 Women in Leadership awardees.  This event is sponsored annually by the St. Louis Community Empowerment Foundation, whose board chairperson is Michael McMillan, St. Louis City License Collector and youngest citywide elected official.  The event will be held on Friday, May 8, 2009 at the Coronado Ballroom, 3701 Lindell Blvd.

The annual luncheon gives recognition to women who excel in their work in a professional, civic or social capacity in our region.  The event will recognize achievements in categories including education, health, social services, business leadership, volunteerism, government, media and corporate citizenship.  This year's awardess are:  Deborah Patterson of The Monsanto Fund, Attorney Frankie Freeman and Ellen Scherberg of the St. Louis Business Journal.

After more than three decades in the design business, the addition of jewelry design to her repertoire of infinte talents was a natural progression.  Greta's eye for  beauty and commitment to quality were honed during the years she spent designing retail window and product displays, as an interior designer, planning events for one of St. Louis' premier agencies and as a fashion show coordinator.
