PAWS IN THE PARK ON SEPT. 26 AT BROEMMELSIEK PARK
CELEBRATES COMMUNITY DOG PARKS, OUR FURRY FRIENDS
St. Charles County Parks Department - To close out a fun-filled summer, the St. Charles County Parks Department will host its sixth annual Paws in the Park celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Broemmelsiek Park Off-Leash Dog Area. The free event offers pets and their families a fun opportunity to enjoy the County's community dog parks, which are unique in that they're free and open to all guests and their pets. The event will kick off at 11 a.m. with a new event this year - Paws on Parade, which is a guided walk along the park's trail with your dog or with one provided by the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center.
For more information, or to register to attend Paws in the Park, please call 636-949-7535. Those wishing to walk a shelter dog as a part of the Paws on Parade must pre-register before Sept. 16, 2009, as a limited number of dogs are available for this activity.
Paws in the Park is a dog-focused, family friendly exhibition featuring contests, a raffle, exhibits and discussions from pet-friendly organizations, and a barbecue fundraiser sponsored by the Wentzville VFW. The St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center will have dogs available on-site for adoption and offer micro-chipping for family pets; while Westinn Kennels will conduct free nail clippings. Event sponsors are Kennelwood Pet Resorts, O'Fallon Veterinary Medical Center, the St. Charles County Pet Adoption Center, Westinn Kennels, Doggie Dreams Bakery, Bark Central Kennel and Pet Resort, Yucko's Poop Scoop'n Service and Products, the Wentzville VFW Post 5327, and the Missouri Alliance for Animal Legislation. Additional organizations interested in sponsoring or exhibiting at the event should contact Doug Bolnick (636-949-7535) before Sept. 18.
The dog park inside Broemmelsiek Park is a 2.5-acre fenced off-leash area that offers abundant shade and a small swimming pond to maximize your dog's enjoyment. Broemmelsiek Park is located at the intersection of Schwede and Wilson roads (the dog park is located on Wilson Road), approximately one-half mile west of Highway DD and four miles southwest of the intersection of Highway 40/61 and WingHaven Boulevard.
In an effort to maintain its Off-Leash Dog Areas as ones that are free and open to all guests, the St. Charles County Parks Department seeks volunteers who will share information with visitors about proper etiquette and rules within the facility. A seminar during the Paws in the Park event (beginning at 11:30 a.m.) will train interested volunteers to become "Watch Dogs" during their time at the park with their pets. Those participating in this program will receive a volunteer lanyard after completing their training session. For information on becoming a "Watch Dog" volunteer or to register to attend this class, please call 636-949-7535.
