CELEBRATE TAKE A KID MOUNTAIN BIKING DAY
WITH FREE EVENT AT BANGERT ISLAND/FRONTIER PARK  

St. Charles County Parks Department - The St. Charles County Parks Department, Gateway
Off-Road Cyclists (GORC), and many of the area's leading bicycle shops will join to celebrate Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 10, at Frontier Park and the Louis H. Bangert Memorial Wildlife Area.  The free opportunity is part of an international event designed to introduce children to this growing recreational sport - with exhibits, safety checks, a skills clinic, and a guided ride offered.

Beginning with registration and the skills clinic held on the southern edge of Frontier Park (near the Lewis and Clark statue), the activities will continue with a five-mile guided ride along the Katy Trail and through Bangert Island.  Along with the opportunity to ride the parks' trails, GORC members and Park Rangers will answer questions, offer riding tips, and conduct safety/helmet checks.

Participants should bring their own bicycle and must wear a helmet while riding.  Prize raffles for all participants will be held throughout the event.  Even though the event is geared for children aged 8-14, parents and siblings may join the Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day activities.

The program is limited to the first 250 participants enrolled.  Advanced registration is recommended, as the first 100 registrants will receive a goody bag filled with treats, coupons, and other surprises.  For registration information, please visit www.stccparks.org or call 636-949-7535.

St. Charles County Parks' Louis H. Bangert Memorial Wildlife Area is located on an island in the Missouri River just south of the Blanchette Bridge in St. Charles.  In addition to more than three-miles of natural-surface hiking and biking trails, visitors to the 160-acre park may enjoy nature photography opportunities, a spectacular foliage display, and close-up views of the Missouri River that flows alongside the park.
